Environmental Specialist Pool (Noise, Air Quality, Soil & Transport) at ESS Sustainability

Location: Dakar, Senegal (with field travel across Africa)
Contract: Consultant Pool / Project-Based Assignments
Work Model: Field + Remote Hybrid (assignment dependent)

About the Company:

ESS Sustainability operates in the environmental due diligence and infrastructure impact space.

They support projects across:

  • energy
  • mining
  • transport
  • industrial development

Their work sits at a critical checkpoint in development projects:
before harm happens, not after damage is done.

About the Role:

This is a technical specialist consultant pool, not a single fixed position.

You will be deployed into projects depending on expertise in:

  • noise and air quality
  • soil and land assessment
  • transport and traffic impact

Think of this as environmental engineering applied at project approval level.

You are essentially shaping whether major infrastructure projects can proceed safely and compliantly.

What You’ll Do (by specialization):

Noise & Air Quality Specialist

  • Conduct baseline environmental monitoring
  • Design noise and air quality assessment programs
  • Analyse field and sensor data
  • Assess environmental and community impact
  • Contribute to ESIA and ESMP documentation
  • Recommend mitigation measures for compliance

Soil Specialist

  • Conduct soil sampling and field assessments
  • Analyse contamination, erosion, and land suitability
  • Interpret laboratory and field data
  • Develop land management and remediation strategies
  • Support ESIA and environmental due diligence

Transport Specialist

  • Conduct traffic and transport impact studies
  • Assess infrastructure and logistics implications
  • Evaluate road safety and mobility risks
  • Develop traffic management frameworks
  • Contribute to permitting and ESIA processes

Who They’re Looking For:

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geography, Transport Planning, or related field
  • Experience in infrastructure, mining, energy, or industrial projects
  • Strong ESIA and environmental assessment background
  • Ability to analyse field and technical data
  • Strong report writing and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel for field assignments
  • French or Portuguese is a strong advantage

Why This Role Matters:

This is where sustainability becomes physically measurable.

Not dashboards. Not frameworks.
But:

  • soil composition
  • air quality levels
  • noise pollution thresholds
  • traffic congestion risks

You are the ground truth layer of ESG compliance.

If ESG reporting is the story,
this is the evidence that story is built on.
